Spring Cereals Grain Yield Trials (& winter crop grain numbers)
We have some information compiled for the spring cereals grain yield trials complied below. Some information will come later once falling number ect. is done. Barley, HRSW, SWSW, Durum, Hybrid Fall Rye, Winter Wheat were all in the trial. The field experienced more lodging vs. normal, due to being on the edge of some storms and high fertility. Usually we like to see some lodging as it helps differentiate varieties. This year it was almost excessive causing some impact on the plots. The plots also sat in the field a number of weeks longer than ideal due to the combines being busy on seed crops with no breaks like normal. This caused some rain on the mature crop, and bu weight to be lower, and we did look for seed or head drop but did not see much. What is the best wheat variety and what is the best barley variety? Wheatland VB, Hockley, and Hodge VB in top spots for CWRS, Succed VB & Stronghold topping the durum chart, Sadash VB on the SWSW, and Sirish on the barley charts. For barley this is pretty much opposite of last years results where the heat hurt some varieties more than others. Fertility: 300 lbs of 46-0-0 spread and worked in, 92 lbs of 11-52-0 with the seed. Over 200 lbs of N available to crop as was on faba bean stubble. Teraxxa F4 Seed Treat. Normal in crop herbicides. Manipulator PGR on all the plots at GS 32 average across the plots. (The barley would have been better to have Moddus) & applied FHB fungicide at heading. Larger pictures available here: https://www.stampseeds.com/grain-trials.html
