Should you be growing a non GM canola for the premiums?

The margins on non GM canola look really good right now so if you can manage weeds you could make 20-25% more dollars per ac.
Clearfield canola yields a little less vs non CL varieties but you can still be far ahead of other canola returns. In my charts below I used about 8% less yield and 18% less yield to compare $ per ac.
Canterra has a great new CL canola called CS 2800 CL available now with early booking and pre pay price deadlines on now. Even calculating lower yields on the CL canola you could be 20-25% ahead on net returns.
If you are worried about weed control, a fall pass of glyphosate now can help for your perennial weeds like thistle and dandelion, and also using Edge can suppress kochia and wild oats in season.
Keep in mind you need to have the edge at the level of the weed seeds to work. We use a heavy harrow with a Valmar on it.
