Peas for 2019!

As we are planning crops for this coming season I wanted to send out some information on a few classes of peas as well as an update on our seed cleaning & processing system while we wait to finish harvest 2018!

CDC Inca - Yellow Pea
This variety launches this season from the CDC program in Saskatchewan and looks to be promising. We have processed our CDC Inca already and have excellent germination. If you liked growing CDC Meadow but needed more stand ability and total yield, this one may be the fit for you. Seed coat integrity seems to be very good with Inca.
Availability will be tighter as it is launch year.

AAC Lacombe - Yellow Pea 
Lacombe has been the top yielder on the market for the pasty few years. It came from the Lacombe AB breeding program.
You will not find a better yielding and standing variety than Lacombe on the market today. It has larger seed size and has more risk of seed coat cracking than some varieties so farmers have tried taking them off at higher moisture if possible.

CDC Greenwater - Green Pea
We decided to bring in some green peas this season as that market looks to be priced better than yellow's. The risk with green peas is bleaching and  may have slightly lower yielding. Also the market can flip and price can be similar to yellow's fairly easily.
We will have CDC Greenwater a new CDC Saskatoon variety with improved stand ability and yield over other green varieties.
Book early as we will only be bringing in enough for customers orders and we will require a deposit so we do not have unsold inventory. We are currently getting initial specs and prices sorted out now.

AAC Liscard - Maple Pea
Maple peas have been priced fairly well in this past season and look to be good again this winter. AAC Liscard is a new variety so talk to your buyers about it before contracting. I had one customer try it on irrigation and had almost 100 bu per ac with reasonable good stand ability. We have grown them on dry land with similar yields to yellow peas. The maple pea market is not very large so there is risk of over production.
I do have some buyers looking for old crop Liscard (not many out there) and would assume they will have new crop contracts at some point as well
