Pea Market Outlook - Chuck Penner of Left Field Commodity Research

Chuck Penner of Left Field Commodity Research presented at the PSCC September 27, 2023 on pea markets.

• Green peas may continue to increase in price, Maple peas have done so already similar to about 5 years ago.
• Green pea seeded area in Canada was down 29%, other types down 25%, and Yellow peas down 6%
• Yellow pea trade has shifted with Russian peas going to China into the feed market mainly. Canadian peas are priced on the higher side but are very good quality so will flow to destinations with better values.​​
• Canada is showing tighter stocks to use ratio vs. the past few season. 
• We may see peas move higher (in general) due to September typically being the low for pricing in the marketplace. Peas may end up staying in farms bins longer (and possibly also gain value) vs. 5-10 years ago when more was shipped right off of combine.
