Early Start to Seeding 2021

We started seeding AAC Chrome yellow peas on dryland on March 22 (about 9 days earlier vs our earliest start) and they are sprouting now.
We are hoping they will take advantage of the early season moisture, we did take a break and started again on March 31 with about 1000 ac of peas seeded so far.
Some issues with early seeding:

• frost can move up and down, so one day its ok and the next is frozen or tacky
• weed control challenging - we use Edge and then do a pre burn before the peas are up.
• with a disk drill seed trench closure can be an issue as well as packer gumming
• frost risk? - we use a fungicide and insecticide treatment. In Winter Wheat research, it has been shown both fungicide and insecticide can impact winter survival and stress tolerance.
• do the summer rains come late? - on average not for us.
• dryland we feel we can take some frost risk for yield gains but on irrigation we like seeding into even ground and we don't want to risk any seeds stranded or uneven stands.

Please let us know in advance when you are arriving, so we can be organized for you.

Nothing is more important than the well-being of our staff and the customers we serve. Our office treating office & scale house are closed during seed pickup due to COVID-19. 
Please pass along to your staff who will be picking up seed or custom truckers.

• Office, treating office & scale house are closed during seed pickup and our office is closed to all visitors.
• Please observe 6'+ buffer room between yourself (or staff) and our staff.
• A portable restroom for customers & truckers is available across from our front office.
• When you arrive please park outside our front office and give us a moment to come out to you or call 403-739-2233
• When scaling, please stay in your truck and we will bring paperwork to you.
• Please use your own pen if you can on paperwork or keep our pen that you sign with.

New Crop Prices
We have had some buyers offering:

• $10 per bu new crop FB 9-4 faba bean on the first 20 bu per ac
• $16-17 new crop brown or yellow flax,
• $4+ oats,
• HRSW with brokers at premiums to traditional elevators and
•  barley and feed wheats at good new crop levels yet as well.

It offers:

• 20-30 days on seed lifespan with seed treatments
• no polymer coating required
• suitable for pea, lentil & faba bean
• use rated per ac not per kg of seed so a set rate of inoculant is needed per ac meaning cost per bu can fluctuate depending on target seeding rates but cost per ac stays the same
  • ​​pea & faba bean require 40 ac per bag
  • lentils require 60 ac per bag
• ​organic eligible
