Small Plot Inc helped us out with our grain yield trials. Todd took 3 passes through each plot and these numbers are the average, I rode with Todd most of the day and it was a pretty fun experience.
There was some variability from a lumpy seed bed and then a tougher winter impacting the variable depths of seeding. I wasn't expecting this chart to look like this based on other data that I read, but these are the numbers we got. We did not take samples for ergot as each plot is essentially a field edge so ergot levels would not be accurate. We removed the forage specific varieties and only listed the varieties mainly listed for grain available for sale now. If you are looking for winter crop forage demo results, click here For grain yields the hybrid rye's on average were 21% higher yielding vs conventional rye and some were as high as 37% more. The wheat plots looked amazing all season. The triticale plots were a little thinner than normal as the winter was harsher on them vs the other fall crops.
